Codes and Guidelines
Within the cultural sector, there are three key codes of conduct: the Diversity and Inclusion Code, the Fair Practice Code, and the Culture Governance Code. The first two codes are particularly relevant to the mission and target group of Stage Cultuur Inclusief.

Diversity & Inclusion Code
The Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Code aims to ensure that the cultural sector becomes more representative and inclusive. This code has been specifically translated into the policy areas of Personnel, Public, Program, and Partners. For each of these ‘Ps,’ the code provides guidelines for institutions on how to develop and implement a D&I policy, including suggested actions.
Stage Cultuur Inclusief is closely aligned with the Diversity & Inclusion Code. Organizations adhering to this code are likely to have already begun formulating a vision for diversity and inclusion, along with clear goals. A critical component of this vision is inclusion: ensuring that individuals can be themselves and are valued for who they are.
The code defines diversity as the range of visible and invisible characteristics that distinguish individuals while also highlighting their similarities. Although the code initially focused on cultural diversity, it now encompasses a broader spectrum of differences, including gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic status, education level, and age.
Inclusion refers to how we engage with these differences and similarities. The true potential and benefits of diversity are realized when each individual’s uniqueness is recognized and embraced. Inclusion measures the extent to which creators, producers, workers, and audiences—regardless of their visible or invisible identities—can be themselves and feel safe and respected.

Fair Practice Code
The Fair Practice Code is a code of conduct for entrepreneurship and employment within the arts, culture, and creative industries. It is grounded in five core values: solidarity, diversity, sustainability, trust, and transparency. This code serves as a guideline for collectively achieving a sustainable labor market and professional practice within the sector. Its ultimate goal is to establish a healthy labor market in the cultural and creative industries, where people are treated fairly and compensated appropriately.
In the context of Stage Cultuur Inclusief, this means ensuring that interns receive proper working conditions and are well-supervised in a safe working environment. Organizations can apply for financial support towards internship stipends through the Culture Inclusive Internship Scheme.
Culture Governance Code
Finally, we also reference the Culture Governance Code, which provides guidance on good governance and oversight within cultural organizations. Effective governance is crucial for the management and continuity of organizations and plays a significant role in building trust and legitimacy with external stakeholders. Thoughtful governance practices are essential for strengthening cultural organizations and ensuring a healthy, transparent cultural sector.
The Code consists of eight principles, with the eighth emphasizing the importance of diversity within supervisory boards. Principle 8 states: “The supervisory board is responsible for its composition and ensures a balance of expertise, diversity, and independence.”
